Welcome to the homepage of Rocc0's DC Hub! Rocc0's DC hub connects Directly to the network. Direct Connect is a file sharing network made up by hubs, to which clients like dc++ and oDC can connect. Once connected to the hub, the user can search for files on the hub or the network, or browse files of other users connected to the hub.

Connect addresses

You can connect Rocc0's hub using the following address:

roccoshub.no-ip.info

You can connect to Rocc0's lan hub using the following address:

172.16.103.103:411

Important: you need at least DC++/oDC (or equivalent) or LinuxDC++ for connecting to Rocc0"s hub. Since this hub runs as a test, problems may occur sometimes. The rules for Rocc0's lan hub are different than the rules for internet hub. On Ian, you won't need any prefix for connecting and there is no share limit yet. For detailed information and comparing the rules, see our rules page!

1 Installation
-----------------
Just run the installer and fire it up, then enter the settings to set it up according to your
preferences (most important is nick, download location and shared folders).

2 Uninstall

There is an uninstaller as well ...
If you didn't use the installer: Just delete the folder, there are no .dll's or registry settings :)

3 Available commands (type in main chat or pm)

/grantn grants a slot to the user of the pm window you type in
/close close current window
/help short help message
/refresh Refreshes list of shared files :)
/away <message> Specifies a message to auto-respond in PM's while you're AFK
(there's a default message so you don't need to specify one)
/back Turn away message off
/slots <#> Changes number of slots to <#>
/clear Clears the main chat windows
/ts Switches timestamps in chat windows on and off
/showjoins Toggles joins/parts messages for the current hub
/search <string> Searches for <string>
/join <hub> Joins <hub>
/dc++ Gives a comment about DC++ and shows the URL where
you can get it
/fav /favorite Adds hub to favourites (also works in pm's from that user)

4 What do those Icons mean ??

green = normal Icon
blue = DC++ user (identified on 1st direct connection to this user)
with bricks = User is in passive mode
with key = User is an Operator

5 Not-so-obvious options
---------------------------
Settings:
General:

Active: The usual connection mode, you can specify your IP
if detection fails and a port of your choice if you need to.
This mode will use a random port between 1025 and 32000
chosen anew on restart if nothing is set in settings.

Passive: Compatibility connection mode for users behind
Firewalls they can't change to let DC++
connections trough.
(*Imp:Only use this if Active is not working)
Note: Passive <-> Passive connections aren't possible.

Downloads: Unfinished files temporary directory: You can specify a Directory for your
partial files here, suggestion si to have it on another
partition than the "Default download directory" to have
the files defragmented through moving there :)

Download slots: Maximum number of Downloads runing at once, suggestion
is to set it to the same number as your upload slots
(max slots is 12 in my hub)

Sharing:Try to share all the drives if possible:)

Upload slots: The number of maximum simultaneous uploads, set to a reasonable
value; you should have at least 4-5 KB/s uplaod speed per slot and 9-10 MB/s on lan.

Appearance:
Use system icons: Displays the icons set in Windows for filetypes

6 Other things you might want to know about
----------------------------------------------
* you can doubleclick on a user name in chat to select him in the user list
* you can doubleclick on stuff starting with www. http:// of ftp:// to open :)
* DC++ supports uploading filelists and files <16 kB to other DC++ users
WITHOUT REQUIRING A SLOT. There's a max of 3 connections in addition to
normal slots.
* Files <16 kB and filelists are downloaded first.
* There is information added to the description field:
<++ V:x,M:x,H:x/y/z,S:x[,O:x]> where
V = client version,
M = mode (a=active, p=passive),
H: x = number of hubs connected to where you're not a registered user
y = number of hubs you're registered in
z = number of hubs you're registered as op
S = number of slots you have open.
O = if total upload is below this value DC++ will open another slot
this part of the tag is only shown when the option for it is enabled
This is updated every 1-2 minutes if there are changes.
* There is a limit so that only 15 users and 1 op can be kicked at a time
from the hub user list
* Passive user detection, those that are behind a set of bricks are passive.
(detected when the user searches or tries to connect to you)
* DC++ user detection, those appear blue.
* Dupe file removal, files with same name and size are automatically removed
from your share
* Search flood detection (If more than 5 searches are received from the same
user within 7 seconds, DC++ will send out a warning)
* if a user leaves the hub DC++ will close his slots, if the user is back within 10 minutes
DC++ will grant him a slot.
THIS CAN CAUSE YOUR UPLOAD GOING OVER MAXIMUM SET IN SETTINGS
* filelist will be recreated if missing on request
* optional SFV will remove and requeue file if check failed
* If DC++ receives "banned" during the login phase, it'll stop automatically reconnecting
* Files containing "$" aren't added to share 'cause they won't be downloadable alter on.
This is a protocol limitation ....

8 Automatic search for alternative download locations
--------------------------------------------------------
An automatic search (the advanced option "Automatically search for
alternative download locations")It will automatically match any search results
coming from manual searches against files in the download queue. So
basically it saves you the trouble of right-clicking every file you want to
add as an alternate source.

That pretty much covers it.

We notice you to check your share against files that violate your country's copyright law.

Mandatory settings

selecting the correct internet connection type (if applicable)
indicating your bandwidth in your client's Description field
Rocc0's Hub is a lan hub, so we ask you to have [NeT] prefix in your nick if your are connecteing from internet
setting up the proper number of upload slots ( minimum is 6 )

Slot rules

The point of these rules is that the slot requirements are based on the upload speed of your connection. This ensures at least 3-4 KiB/sec speed for a single slot. We tried to develop our rules so that you won't have to open too few or too many slots (there won't be any free slots/the download speed would be too slow ).

You should set up your upload slots based on the following table:

* You can set up any upload limit only by using a proper Direct Connect client with limiting functions (like BCDC++, StrongDC++ Lite, Valknut)

Measuring and indicating bandwidth

If you don't know your bandwidth, you can check your ISP's webpage or your contract. But since a lot of ISPs were raised the bandwidth in the past, it may worth to use a website to measure your bandwidth. It's important to quit any application that may use your internet-connection before measuring. You can do that on the following page:

Clients you can use for connecting

You can use every kind of Direct Connect client which is able to TTH hash files and doesn't violate GNU GPL. The minimum client version is ODC 5.3.1,DC++ 0.4032 or equivalent. If you're using other kind of client, we disallow using the DC++ emulation feature, use the client's own TAG.

Download rules

You are not required to set up any share to enter the hub, but you won't be able to download until you share at least 10 GiB. You can still use the search and chat functions without any limitation even if you don't have enough share.

Share rules

You and you alone bear responsibility for the full content of your share.

Do not share any content that violates your country's copyright laws.
Do not share fake files and folders.
Do not share useless files (.tmp, Recycle Bin, etc.).
Do not share incomplete files (Bittorrent, GetRight, FlashGet, DC, eDonkey, etc.).

Do not share broken or virus infected files.
Do not share modified DC Clients or any other applications which allows users to block uploaders, let anyone to fake share or any settings, or cheat with any other way.
Do not share applications which violates GNU GPL.
Do not share rape, preteen-underage, pedophile, animal, incest porn.
Do not share racist, fascist, white-power or any other extremist content, including music with language identically used by extremist movements.
Do not share necrophilia, faces of death content.
If you want to share a whole DVD, do it as an image file.
Your directories should be organized in a clear intuitive way. File and folder names should always refer to real content.
We recommend to indicate the quality and language of movie files in their names.
Always check your shared content. Do not share non-working useless trash.
In any doubt regarding eligibility to share, seek assistance from an OP.

Staying on the hub

Read the MOTD (welcome-message) when entering the hub, do not close mass-messages without reading. We don't send advertisements as a mass-message and always have a good reason to take the time and type in those all-hub announcements, please take the time to read our message.
Do not flood the chat in any way (like repeated copy-pastes, texts that contain more than 10 lines and ASCII-arts).
If you wish to place any advertisement, look for an OP. We will ban you for any non-authorized ads. Only non-profit ads will be allowed.
Always do what an OP asks. We always have good reason to ask if we do.
Prior asking an OP, read the Frequently Asked Questions or try to ask on main chat (some smart way).
Never beg and whine for OP-right, we will seek and promote you if you prove yourself to be worthy.
Never disconnect any uploads unless an Operator or the user ask you to do so. Disconnecting uploads is the biggest sin on DC. No explanation qualify.
No return can be asked or condition can be set for uploads.
Enter "/refresh" to main chat or press Ctrl+E whenever you alter/add/remove any files in your share. No files under upload can be removed, renamed or moved
Try to stay in the hub while other people are uploading from you. If you have to turn off your computer, send a private message to the users uploading from you and tell them when your computer will be online again.
Appreciate the others, do not leech. DC is about getting for giving, do not be selfish.
No politics on main chat.
Do not abuse users (e.g. ones with feminine nicks) with sexual-related posts, both on main and in private chat.
Our chat is not a dating service. do not deprave it with such posts.
Do not post blond-jokes, minority-jokes, these aim to sustain the misconception of the members of these groups being inferior -with which we do not agree in any way.
Do not overuse caps lock, exclamation mark or question mark, it makes you look really stupid.
Try not to use chat slang. In the aim of preserving the chat quality, we may kick for overusing of slang.

Registration

On Rocc0's Hub, any user can ask for registration. To do so, seek for an active Operator who will reg you.
It's important to know that the rules of the hub are applied to registered users too, so you will still need at least 10 GiB share to be able to download and the other rules will be still applied to you.
The Operators of the hub may remove registrations which are not used for more than six months.
We expect fair play from our registered users too, so disrupting the community or any other intentional and serious misdemeanor can make us ban you and delete your registration.
